UN Security Council updates – morning session

At the moment the United Nations Security Council is discussing how the United Nations can improve their effort in peacekeeping and peacebuilding. Nearly all delegates at the UNSC are working together on this topic. Only the delegate of Venezuela is questioning the peacekeeping and wants to stop sending out peacekeepers and peace builders and instead save money and resources.

The actual ideas for the improvements are to provide a better training to peacekeepers and peace builders. They are also discussing the idea to merge the Peacebuilding Commission and the Department of Peacekeeping to create a body that can provide short and long-term solutions for the conflicts. They are also thinking about sending in peacekeepers and peace builders together. They agreed that it is important to start with the peace building as early as possible. It is hoped that such an initiative could instruct governments in how to end the conflict. Like the delegate of Malaysia said: “train them how to fish and not just give them the fish”.

Another big issue is to improve the training for the peacekeepers and peace builders in the topics of culture, gender and other topics that are imported to understand the locals. Like the delegate of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland said: “if one fucks up, we all fuck up”. They are also thinking about a standardized training for the peacekeepers to close the gaps between the different troops who are part of a peacekeeping mission.

The council is still working to get all the different ideas together and hopefully they agree on a resolution that will make it easy to get a world with more peace and fewer conflicts. All in the hope that one day, a peaceful world can be achieved.
